Surprises

There have been some great finds recently. Which makes me want to shop more and in turn list less. That doesn't work very well. I will start with the best, heart stopping find. It was one of those items that you kind of remember sell for a  lot of money but haven't ever seen on in person.

Antique Vintage 1930's Brown's Beach Cloth WORK Vest Salt & Pepper
I listed this starting at $500.00 buy it now or best offer. One very similar had just for for $500.00. I got lots of offers but not to my liking. I relisted it and again lots of offers and interest but not quite right. I ended up taking $325.00 for it.
I also started looking for sports uniforms and concert t-shirts. That was never on my list to look to items. Mainly because there are too much competition in my area for those items. I have found a few in the past and have done well with them. Now I keep an eye out. I found these two vintage 1980's Starter pulovers.

Sold them both the first night for $29.99 each

Sold immediately for $62.50

Sold for $55.99

My HONEYHOLE

I haven't even thought about posting on my blog in about a year. I have changed much of my selling structure and even the items I am buying to sell. I used to mainly sell vintage clothing but sales were terrible last year. So I had to find new things to buy and a different way to sell. So I branched out. I started buying storage units, newer items, toys, etc. I also started selling on Facebook garage sale pages. But this post will be about my new honeyhole. I will not say where this amazing new store is but it has been a great location. Over the past six months or so, I have been going there a few times a week. You never know what you are going to find. Here are some of my favorite and best finds as of now.

Howdy All

Well, I didn't die or get stuck in a well. I just haven't been doing much. Ebay has been terrible for about a year and I have moved most of my selling to Etsy. You can find me at Oliveyouvintage https://www.etsy.com/shop/oliveyouvintage - my shop for vintage clothing. Or EndandOdd for my other unique vintage items and collectibles. https://www.etsy.com/shop/endandodd
I will catch everyone up on the little stuff later but I would like to tell you about my recent find. As of middle of March 2015, I haven't been to any auctions and only one estate sale. I finally set my sites on a Kiko onsite Auction on 3/28/2015. The former owner Tom Olszeski was the Northeast Ohio's Ronald McDonald from 1960 - 2000's. Mr. Olszeski was also a party clown named Clowno the Magic Clown. I obtained most of the magic collection - including what might be a magic saw in half box. (I haven't put it together yet). I spend a few days going through all that I won at the auction.

It has filled most of my great room. There is too much to even talk about. I will just show you some close ups to make you cry.

I actually bought this off another dealer. It is Clowno's handmade magic stand. It comes in three pieces for easy transport. I spied it in the corner and figured out what it is. I think I was the only one to know what it was used for. To the right of the stand is the saw in half box. At least that is what I was told it is. I have yet to put it together.

The cool photoshoot panel of the bunny coming out of the top hat was given to me by another dealer. Isn't it completely awesome.

The weird yellow faux woodgrain tube on the right side of the photo is another magic trick that I am unsure what it is for. It comes in three pieces. It reminds me of the disappearing person trick but is too small for even a child to fit in.
I have yet to figure out where I am going to sell all of these items or how I will sell them. My options are Ebay, Etsy, or Hartville. I also have to figure of if I am selling them in lots or individually.

Hartville Flea Market - Here I come

I already set up at Hartville twice this year (that is crazy for me). I had my Mom to help and we kicked butt. I sold out completely on both days. So it is Friday night and my car is jammed packed with more goodies to sell. My husband and I went to an amazing auction two weeks again and bought so much stuff we had to leave some behind. My house is bursting and my front porch has been filled with priced items ready to go. So I will come back in a few days (hopefully with some pictures) and tell the tale.

Let Them Eat CAKE!!

My daughter had a winter carnvial at school. I decided to donate a homemade cake for the cake walk. I remember the cake walk at my elementary school carnival and it was always fun. I stole the idea off of pinterest for a rainbow layered cake. I used two boxes of cake white cake mix and two containers of icing. I divided up the cake mix into eight bowls and dyes each layer. I was going to do the ROY G BIV but ended up with an extra layer. So I did red, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

I should have listened to the advice on the recipe and placed the cake in the freezer before icing but was running late. Then this happened...

I ended up using rainbow sprinkles on the top and M&M's on the sides. I even through in the cute melamine plate I found at Marc's. Here is the end result.

My Color Wheel

I am getting ready for Spring and Summer weather. I pulled out my hoard of vintage capris, skinny jeans, shorts, peddle pushers, etc. These all came from the same estate and only one person. There are 109 pairs in total. Insane, right! It will take me some time to sell these as I will probably sell a few pairs at a time. Almost all the colors of the rainbow.

Perfect timing, too. The Gap has an ad right now for more colored skinny pants. How many of mine look like those? Too many!!

Wednesday Thrift Store Finds 1/16/13

Wednesday's(for those who don't know) is 50% off four of the five colored tags at all Salvation Army's. It is usually really picked over. But I found not one, not two but THREE bakelite bracelets. I have wanted to start collecting bakelite for a while but couldn't afford it. The price of bakelite has been going down over the last few years. But I am super cheap and really want to find a deal. Well ,I got the red carved bakelite bracelet for $.99 and the two yellow bakelite bracelets for $.99 for the two.

I also found a silver metal chocker necklace with a pair of cherries on them. It isn't marked and I can't find anything about it. I paired $3.99 for it.

Starting 2013

Well, I'm only three days into 2013 and don't like it. I am sick. I never get sick. Last night I took night time medicine to try and get some sleep. Over 12 hours later, my skin is still crawling. No more medicine for me!!!
Getting back to where I want to be this year. I am working on some new items for Oliveyouvintage on Etsy. Here is a sneak peak -

I survived Hartville (barely)

I have finally recovered from the longest weekend ever. I took my camera but didn't get time to take any pics. I tried to take a picture of the clock in my car but it came out too fuzzy. I arrived to set up at Hartville the night before. 11:24pm to be exact. I am glad I left that early because I got one of the few spots left. I only got about three hours of uncomfortable sleep. It was hot and muggy. And I had filled my car to the brim.

I started setting up at about 5:00 am after giving up on sleep. I think it was hotter at that point. It was slow but steady. I go to sell not come home with stuff. But I do have a 'rule' that I won't reduce prices until after 10:00. I starting bringing out things and got hit by the usual early risers. The true pickers that come with flashlights and exact change. One of my return customers bought the Justice wood carving. He then brought back a folk art dealer (whom I have seen for many years but never introduced myself). He bought all the rest of the wood carvings. Just a great guy who loves what I love.

Later a woman came up stunned by the paintings. She bought the best three (the large country scenes). We had a nice time talking about paintings, folk art, Hartville, even the bakelite bracelets she was wearing. The new owner of the wood carvings came to gather them up and starting talking to the woman. They knew each other. Small world I guess.

Anyway, I did great at the flea market. I sold all the wood carvings, three of the paintings, and about $400.00 extra schlock that I had brought. I did better than most of the people around me (as usual). I met a few nice people, had some great conversations, and got some great compliments. Like the guy selling eyeglass cleaner next to me told me how impressed he was with my selling ability. That was nice.

The only depressing part was I had four larger items for sale that I would have been happy to get rid of. I didn't sell any of them. And loading them up ten hours later in the high heat SUCKED. That is part of the game. I'm glad I went and can't wait until next year. I was amazed that I bought all that stuff on Wednesday and sold most of it on Saturday. I could totally do this better and bigger. We will see what next year brings!

Hartville Here I Come

I have been hiding out because I haven't been able to keep my New Year's Resolution. Oh, well. I am not to worried about it but have noticed a dip in my sales because of it. I should be listing and posting to keep things rolling. Something to work on.

Anyway, the reason I am finally posting is I will be setting up at the Hartville Flea Market on Saturday. I hadn't really planned on it but went to an auction literally next door to my house yesterday. Now my entire front porch is filled with some amazing folk art carvings and painting. So that is that. I don't really want to ship these heavy or ackwardly shaped items. The flea market is the best place for them. Here is a sneak peak of what I got with more to some.

The great black cat has already found a home. But the rest will be available. Plus the usual vintage decor, household items, and vintage clothing and accessories. I am really just throwing this together and haven't started pricing it yet. Hopefully I will have a great sale and come home with an empty car.

Blogs I Follow

I have been scouring the internet trying to find local blogs to follow that do what I do or love what I love. I was also trying to find some vintage clothing sellers in my area ( Akron Ohio). I will get to that later. But for now, how about the awesome blogger I found.
THE DAINTY SQUID http://daintysquid.blogspot.com/ I follow everyday. I love her posts. She is located in Cleveland, Ohio. Here is the check list of similarities. - Loves, buys, sells, and wears vintage clothing (check) Sells on Etsy (check) DIFFERENCES - She is much cooler than myself. ( I am a dork but boring.) She dyes her hair lots of different, bright colors. ( I would just like to be a red head again) She is obsessed with her nails with very creative designs. ( I haven't painted my nails since my high school prom.) WISHES- I would love to take tons of pictures at the sales and shops I visit. I wish I had more time to blog and search for cool things. I do think it is strange that there is someone so close to me, does similar things that I do, has a noticeable appearance, and yet, I have never met this person. So how many other people are near me, that do what I do, and have never met me? I usually see the same local people at the sales and know a little about them. I might not know their name (but have probably made up a name for them). Like Jason's friend, who sells vintage clothing in the Falls. I don't know this woman personally but have run into her for over six years at estate sales and auctions. We usually compete for the same things. But when we don't, I know something is up. Like those are her items they are selling that that is why she isn't bidding. Anyway, if you are in the Akron area of Ohio, buy and sell vintage clothing, let me know you are out there!

My Office

I thought I would show the tiny spot that Andvintage and Oliveyouvintage are created. Even though I have a small house, I don't have an extra space to call my own. My office is in a small corner of the my bedroom (right next to the tv).

Can you tell I love the color green? especially olive green.

I have a few stacks of old trunks in my house but this stack is my favorite. I prefer darker and earth tone colors. I have too much stuff but try to pair it down to my favorite pieces that all go together.

The wall is covered with my collection of prison art. Yes, I said prison art. Most are folded paper wrappers like candy or cigarette. There is also a few pieces of carved wood figures like a cow and a squirrel. I through in a few gnomes to even it out. My Mom found me the collection of folk art carved wooden shelves. My husband and children found me the large vase covered in paper circles.
